Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area Seeks Public Input

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area Seeks Public Input on Rehabilitation Efforts Being Considered at the Paces Mill Unit Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area released today, for public comment, a newsletter describing the rehabilitation actions being considered for the Paces Mill Unit. The newsletter is available for review at: https:// parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome. cfm?projectID=76719. The Paces Mill Unit is the southernmost unit of the 15 land units that make up the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. It is about 14 acres in size and is the last take-out point for casual rafters and kayakers. Paces Mill was developed during the 1970's when visitation was much lower than today's approximately 250,000 visitors per year. Rehabilitation is being considered because the unit is not efficiently meeting the needs of visitors and detracts from their enjoyment and safety. There are concerns and deficiencies with existing physical site design, appearance, and infrastructure. Rehabilitation actions being considered include improvements to vehicular and pedestrian circulation, parking, river access, and storm water management, as well as the development of a new visitor contact station and new soft-surface and multi-use trails. The intended outcome of rehabilitation is to improve the safety and experience of all visitors to the Paces Mill Unit, to make the unit more sustainable, to give it a clear National Park Service identity, and to encourage compatible recreational uses at the unit. Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is soliciting input from neighbors, partners, and stakeholders online and via mail. Comments and input are most helpful if received by July 7, 2019.
